Distance

Chest tightens, throat constricts,
A silent mumble of emotions forgotten,
A moist drop of memory,
Rolls down the ladder of distance.
Unnavigable profoundness,
This wide space between us.

The yawning depths of this void,
Rent my heart in two,
Putting asunder that gentle meeting of hands,
That communion of senses.

This heart cries out in pain,
Rails at this stretching eternity,
A soul has most violently been set upon,
By a malign beast most foul,
A breaker of bonds,
Killer of dreams, but worse of all,
A jailer of love.
